Matuki are a 12 piece band who play west African music fused with urban funk. Their first live gigs were at Glastonbury Festival 2015, where they immediately won audiences over with sizzling horns, tuff bass-lines, interlocking guitars and soaring vocals. Led by master drummer and lead vocalist Abraham Ebou, they play festivals and anywhere big enough to hold 12 blisteringly good musicians. They’re based in Bristol, a city renowned for its multi-cultural dance music.
Their debut album, Injo, fuses Afrobeat with full-on urban funk. It has jazz and psychedelic influences too, resulting in mesmerising tunes with heavyweight horn lines. Having gained an enviable reputation as a live band, Matuki are now touring to promote their album.
